NCFC - The Alternative View

Freddy Eastwood?

May 15, 2008 · No Comments

Remember Freddy Eastwood? He’s that pesky little so and so who practically single handed dumped Manchester Utd out of one of the cups last season for Southend. And for those of you who watched him a season before even that when Norwich played Southend in a pre-season friendly, you’ll remember the stellar performance he put in against us there, as well.

Well since then he transferred for big bucks to Wolves and has done diddly squat.

The Express and Star - Birmingham’s leading paper - has today published a story claiming that we are one of four clubs pursuing Eastwood. Apparently, our rivals for his signature are Coventry, Crystal Palace and Derby County.

Favourites to secure the deal is Coventry who came close to signing Eastwood last March in a £1.5mil deal and to whom Eastwood is believed to want to go. But with Coventry apparently struggling to agree a fee with Wolves, NCFC fans of Eastwood will be hoping City can capitalise on that struggle and secure a deal.

This fan, however, is unconvinced. Eastwood wasn’t exactly a world beater at either Southend or Wolves; at Southend, his goals dried up after a flurry of early goals. And for the prices being mooting, it seems as if only another £500k - £750k would be needed to tempt Derby into accepted a deal for Robert Earnshaw. A far more proven talent at this level with actual history at this club.

As always, we will wait and see!
