The Marshmallowman is the pseudonym of a writer who opposed the Worthy Out movement, adopting the banner of one of the very few public supporters of Nigel Worthington in his final months as Norwich manager. With Worthington now gone, the Marshmallowman continues his blog during the summer silly season to provide the comprehensive resource to all Norwich rumours, transfers and the occasional comment.
As a Norwich fan, The MMM has held a season ticket for 15 years, only stopping to attend University. In that time, he’s seen Norwich beat Bayern Munich, Manchester Utd and Newcastle – only then to get thumped at a later date by Burnley on a Tuesday night.
He’s also a bit of a Ghostbusters fan.
As always, the MMM welcomes comments from anyone – and will attempt to reply to your comments ASAP!
Thanks for stopping by.

Surely Ghostbusters is a children’s film?

Gold medal for that man

I was very much a worthy fan right up until the end. I lost friends by defending him!
Then I was extremely worried with Grant’s appointment, but along the way started feeling for him when things did not work out (despite being relieved when he did the decent thing).
I was instantly happy with Glen’s appointment – his record in the first season at all his clubs has been very good.
He has not had time at his other clubs to come out of his second season.
I would feel it an achievement to consolidate our position in the Championship this time. Finishing 12th without flirting with relegation would be FANTASTIC.
He stays in the role and builds on his management team’s and playing staffs’ performance, with a bit of tinkering and… who knows… success?! I can understand his philosophy when stating in the media that he has a three year plan. Good luck Glen!
Bye

Hi Ben, thanks for your comments.
Nigel Worthington did, unfortunately, come to the end of his natural tenure here. There was no way he was going to survive any longer than those last few games he had in charge – the game live on Sky against Burnley was a total disgrace.
That said, I still back my view on Nigel – as you did too. He was a good manager that has done well where ever he’s been. His achievements keeping Leceister up look a lot greater now than they did at the time, for example.
But all good things must come to an end. It was right to move on. Unfortunately, what we moved on too was totally wrong for the club.
Plumping for an ambitious, dedicated but unexperienced man like Grant did more damage to this football club than anyone could have foreseen. I too was exceptionally worried – I was hoping at the time for someone with the experience to steady a sinking ship. Instead, we got someone who seemed to make things worse.
In Grant’s defence, I do worry how much influence Jim Duffy had. When Grant left and Duffy took over, all the old problems intensified. I wonder whether Duffy had too large a hand in things – and whether Grant put too much faith in his experience.
Still, what’s done is done and I’m exceptionally pleased with the progress being made by Roeder. If the season started when Roeder joined, we’d have finished 10th overall – not bad considering he was using largely the same squad that failed Grant so terribly.
What we need now is patience in abundance to allow Roeder to build and develop a squad to take us into the Premiership. This takes time and money – two things I’m not sure Roeder will be given. I’m sure Roeder will be given time by the fans. The idiots on the Pink ‘Un message board and others who seem to want instant success are not representative of the main population of Norwich fans, thankfully. Money, though, is a whole different matter.
I want to see steady progression, as I believe you’ve outlined and as I believe Roeder is aiming for. If we can stay well away from the relegation zone, I too, will be happy and we can build on that in subsequent seasons.
Let’s hope we can do that. Thanks for the comments. OTBC.
