First Signing Close says Roeder. Radio Norfolk says Sammy Clingan to sign imminently.

So, it seems as if the first signing is finally near. After awaiting exceptionally patiently (it seems years since the last game!) Roeder has told the Official Website that the first signing is close and that four or five will follow shortly after.

And if that’s not enough, Radio Norfolk have learnt through sources in the Midlands that Nottingham Forest midfielder, Sammy Clingan is set to sign for Norwich. Clingan, rumoured to be interesting Ipswich and QPR as well as considering an offer from Forest, is a Northern Irish international midfielder. Beyond that, we don’t know an awful lot about him.

Still, this is an exciting time for Norwich fans, who no doubt will be eagerly anticipating who it is Roeder has got nearly signed, sealed and delivered.

Sammy Clingan linked with Bosman move

With the sheer weight of numbers needed at the club, it comes as no surprise to learn that there has yet to be a day where Norwich haven’t been linked with someone in the national papers. Yesterday (2nd June), the latest link involved Forest midfielder Sammy Clingan:

QPR boss Iain Dowie will battle it out with Norwich and Ipswich for Nottingham Forest midfielder Sammy Clingan who is available on a free transfer. (Various)

Ask around and you hear quite a favourable report. Wikipedia identifies him as a Northern Ireland international with twelve caps and a set piece specialist who takes most of Northern Ireland’s set pieces. The article also says he played consistently well throughout 2008, helping Forest to automatic promotion.

Clingan is available on a free and has a contract offer from Forest. However, with both Ipswich and Norwich sniffing over him, he may well be tempted to a move to these bigger clubs.
